Yes, you may have come across a menstrual cup quiz or two available on the internet, which could be useful in pointing you in the right direction, however I think it’s so important to understand the underlying factors that go into choosing the right menstrual cup for you. That way, you will be able to interpret the results of the menstrual cup quiz and know whether the result is right for you or not.
Okay, let’s not digress any further. Back to the star of this menstrual cup show:
Lunette Cup
Lunette Cup is a reputable, well-known menstrual cup brand. With so many menstrual cup brands on the market these days, it’s important to make sure you are dealing with a legitimate brand and not a dodgy imitation product.
Lunette is a Finnish company that was started in 2005 by Heli Kurjanen. After achieving success on a local stage, Lunette went international and is now the most widely distributed menstrual cup in the world.
Safe to say, Lunette is a brand you can trust with the most intimate area of your body.
Lunette Cup Sizes
The Lunette Cup comes in two different sizes.
Lunette Cup Model 1 and Lunette Cup Model 2
So, what’s the difference?
Lunette Cup Model 1
Lunette Cup Model 1 is great for a light to normal flow. It is made of a slightly softer silicone than Lunette Cup Model 2 and has different dimensions.
According to the Lunette website, the precise dimensions are:
- The diameter is 41 mm (1.6 inches) by 47 mm (1.9 inches);
- The stem measures 25 mm (1 inch);
- The volume of the cup is 25 ml (0.85 fl oz);
- And there are measurement lines at 5ml (0.17 oz) and 13.5ml (0.46 oz).
Lunette Cup Model 2
The Lunette Cup Model 2 is great for a normal to heavy flow.
All Lunette menstrual cups are soft and pliable, however, Lunette Cup Model 2 is made of firmer silicone than Lunette Cup Model 1 and has different dimensions.
According to the Lunette website, the precise dimensions are:
- The diameter is 46 mm (1.8 inches) by 52 mm (2 inches);
- The stem measures 20 mm (0.8 inches);
- The volume of the cup is 30 ml (1.0 fl oz);
- And there are measurement lines at 7.5ml (0.25 oz) and 15ml (0.5 oz)
Lunette Model 1 or 2?
So is the Lunette Model 1 or 2 the right menstrual cup size for you? If you can’t decide and want to try both, you can buy a two pack that includes both model 1 and model 2. Click this link to see this pack on Amazon.
If you’ve read my menstrual cup guide you will understand there are a number of factors to consider when choosing the menstrual cup that’s right for you.
Most importantly is the size. Consideration needs to be given to the height of your cervix and therefore what length of cup will be suited to you.
If you have a high cervix, a cup that is too short may get “lost” inside you – although never really lost as there is nowhere for it to go!! – this just means it may be harder to reach up and remove if it’s too short for your vagina.
If you have a low cervix, a cup that is too long might not even fit all the way inside you, which is equally frustrating.
In my guide you’ll learn how to find and measure your cervix so you can make sure the length of the Lunette cup is right for you.
Another important consideration is the capacity of the cup. The difference between the Lunette Model 1 and Lunette Model 2 is 5ml in capacity. It’s important to remember that menstrual cups do hold a lot more than tampons, so you’re unlikely to overflow your cup, unless you have a very heavy period. One of the benefits of a menstrual cup is that you can leave it in for up to 12 hours, but this of course depends on your flow. If you’re bleeding more than 25ml in 12 hours, then you may need to empty it more often than that.
Lunette Cup Colours
I think Lunette may just have the biggest range of menstrual cup colours of any brand on the market! Yes, your cup is going to spend most of its time inside you and therefore the colour won’t be seen, but it can still be fun to know you’re walking around with a sunshine yellow menstrual cup inside!

Lunette has the standard Clear cup, but they also have Orange, Violet, Yellow, Blue and Pink.
The clear cup is great for seeing how much your flow is against the cup measurement lines, but it does become very discoloured after a little while. I have only tried the clear colour from Lunette, so I cannot vouch for the discolouration of the other colours. But it’s something to be aware of and be prepared for. There’s nothing wrong with it as long as you are cleaning your cup properly you can rest assured it’s clean and hygienic to use, regardless of the discolouration.
Where to Buy Lunette Cup
Lunette are stocked by retailers all over the world. So you should be able to find Lunette in a pharmacy, health shop or drug store near you. You can also buy a Lunette Cup easily on Amazon.

How to Clean your Lunette Cup
Cleaning a menstrual cup is easy but Lunette make it even easier. During your period you can get away with emptying your cup, rinsing it out and reinserting it. I personally like to empty my cup in the shower, where it’s easy and mess free to rinse and reinsert. However, you can also manage to clean it when you’re out and about. You can do so by taking a bottle of water into the bathroom stall with you or a wet paper towel to wipe the cup out.
Once your period has finished for the month, you can clean your cup more thoroughly. To do so, you can boil it which sanitises the cup and then store it away in its pouch.
Lunette however also make specific cup cleaning products. These are great to make sure you are giving your cup a thorough clean.
Menstrual Cup Wipes
Lunette’s menstrual cup wipes are perfect to give your Lunette Cup a sparkly wipe down when you’re on the go.

The Lunette wipes come in a box of 10 individually wrapped wipes which are easy to carry with you. They are made of eco-friendly viscose plus alcohol and water, and are biodegradable and compostable.
To use them and sanitise your cup on the go, all you need to do is first wipe and dry the cup with a tissue. Then wipe the cup over with the Lunette Cup wipe to sanitise the cup. Allow the cup to dry completely before you insert it again. Easy!
Menstrual Cup Cleanser
Lunette also makes a Menstrual Cup Cleanser to help clean your menstrual cup.

A little goes a long way with the menstrual cup cleanser because it is super concentrated. A single drop is enough to do the cleaning job.
The menstrual cup cleanser is scented with lemon and eucalyptus which are purifying and cleansing properties. The cleanser is also organic, vegan, and sulfite and paraben-free.
Since you put your menstrual cup inside your vagina, a very delicate part of your body, you want to make sure the stuff you cleanse your cup with has no harmful chemicals or toxins in it. Lunette has you covered on that one.
Lunette vs Diva Cup
If you’ve heard of the Lunette Cup then you’ve probably also heard of Diva Cup. Diva Cup is a hugely popular menstrual cup brand, so it’s valid to want to compare Lunette vs Diva Cup.
Funnily enough, the first menstrual cup I ever used was the Diva Cup. As I mentioned, it’s very popular and one of the main brands. I purchased it online and it worked great for me.
In hindsight, I was lucky because having success with your first menstrual cup doesn’t always happen.
The only reason I stopped using my Diva Cup was because I accidentally threw it out in the trash. I had to get a new cup and I didn’t have time to order online and wait for delivery. I went looking for a menstrual cup in a local health store and I came across a Lunette Cup. Both Diva and Lunette worked well for me.
So what’s the difference between Lunette vs Diva Cup?
Well firstly, Diva Cup comes in three sizes as opposed to Lunette which only has two.
The Diva Cup has Model 0, Model 1 and Model 2.
Model 0 is great for the younger menstruators, under the age of 18 and in the early years of their period.
Without going into an in-depth review of the Diva Cup in this post, Model 1 and Model 2 are comparable to that of the Lunette Model 1 and Model 2. Although slight variances in size.
The Diva is no match for Lunette in their colour range, only offering their cup in a clear colour. But of course, this does the job.
Diva does not directly sell the Diva Cup online. But it is sold through various retailers online and in store.
What if I don’t like my menstrual cup or it doesn’t work for me?
When you buy something and you spend a considerable amount on it, you kinda want to make sure it works for you. It takes patience and practice to get used to the menstrual cup. It’s unlikely you’ll nail it the first time, but stick with it and you should get there.
There’s always the chance the menstrual cup you buy might not work for you and your body. That’s why you want to do your research before buying to make sure you get the right one.
